Utah Open Source Conference
Submitted by cfmcguire on Sun, 2008-08-17 20:13. conference | Open Source | utahI saw an ad for the Utah Open Source Conference on 28 - 30 August in Salt Lake. Is anybody going? I would be tempted except for the economic realities of life in the early 21st Century, and not enough lead time.

What browser do you use?
Submitted by cfmcguire on Sun, 2007-12-09 21:01. browser | resource consumption | systemMoving along to something completely different, what browser(s) do you use. I have read about the tremendous demands that Firefox makes on the system, and I believe that is why my Linux box seems to bog down when I am browsing about. What are you using? What are your experiences with the various browsers out there.
Thanks,
Chuck McGuire

I took the plunge

NVIDIA | UbuntuAfter last night's Bozeman LUG meeting, I decided to take the plunge and install Ubuntu on my newly (more or less) built AMD dual core machine. It was really rather anti-climactic. It installed itself, everything worked, no problem. I sniffed around a little and got my printer hooked up through the network and the existing windows box. No command line, no profanity, no bloodshed. Ubuntu loaded the NVIDIA drivers with the usual disclaimer about proprietary software and put them to work. Who says that Linux isn't ready for the desktop? Now to learn about VMWare....
