Hey everybody,

I just wanted to invite you to a meeting and group I started, the "Montana Programmers" group. We are a new group with about 4 meetings behind us and another one coming up in Missoula, Friday April 3rd. Meetings have been a blast and this month we will be having two brain dumps (brief) one on AJAX and another on CSS design.

Many programmers (especially webers) are Linux users so this should give some exposure to your group as well.. I will definitely mention it to the group.

Hunter LloydHunter Lloyd will be giving a presentation on Blender.

For those unfamiliar with Blender, wikipedia says:

Blender is a 3D graphics application released as free software under the GNU General Public License. It can be used for modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging, water simulations, skinning, animating, rendering, particle and other simulations, non-linear editing, compositing, and creating interactive 3D applications.

Blender is available for several operating systems, including GNU, FreeBSD, IRIX, Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Solaris with unofficial ports for AmigaOS, BeOS, MorphOS , Pocket PC and SkyOS. Blender has a robust feature set similar in scope and depth to other high-end 3D software such as Softimage|XSI, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, Lightwave and Maya.

These features include advanced simulation tools such as rigid body, fluid, cloth and softbody dynamics, modifier based modeling tools, powerful character animation tools, a node based material and compositing system and Python for embedded scripting.

Hunter is a faculty member of the Computer Science Department at MSU-Bozeman and has used Blender in a couple of classes. He will cover the following topics during his presentation:

• User Interface intro
• Feature Tour
• Comparison to commercial apps
• Show some sample projects including those done by students
