LUG Meetings

Meet up with Montana Linux people on IRC. We currently gather at the #ubuntu-montana room on the freenode network. Stop in and say "hello" or even ask/answer some questions. Don't have to be a Ubuntu user either. Or use the web-based chat client.

The BillingsLUG hasn't had a meeting in a while but they are hoping to start back up real soon. Really.

HOWTO: CentOS 5 Medialess Remote Install Over VNC

There have been a few occasions where I have wanted to install CentOS on a remote machine that already had a working flavor of Linux on it. Luckily RHEL / CentOS has a way to do this.

Basic Steps

Download the PXE CentOS kernel and initrd image
Configure the bootloader to boot the CentOS kernel by default
Configure the bootloader with extra parameters for networking and remote VNC
Reboot the machine
Run the vncviewer in listen mode with port 5500 accessible
